And here we go! After the announcement that our peace treaty is expired, I waited until the three ships of my opponent in the area were separated and attacked each with a group of mine.

anno schlacht 1

The initial attack was successful, and all three enemy ships had been swallowed by the waves. Of course now the rest of his fleet was joining the battle, yet fortunately they were all far apart enough for my combat vessels to always remain in the majority.

anno schlacht 2

The deadly thunder of a hundred raging cannons filled the air, and wherever the eye fell sails were torn apart, the planks burst forth from the swimming warriors in flaming explosions.

anno schlacht 3

The first of my ships had fallen victim to the man-made storm, but on the sea-floor it sunk upon it could be greeted by the wooden corpses of at least a fivefold of enemy ones.
I had also moved the first group eastwards since the red player was coming solely from this direction now.

anno schlacht 4
In the biggest single engagement of the battle, seven of my keels were facing five hostile ones. Through the air darted the menacing bodies of cannonballs, shattering the crafts they fell upon, tearing through and apart layers of wood one after another.

anno schlacht 5

In the wind were carried but smoke and the shreds of what were once sails pridefully blown by the breezes. The white banners flying gloriously on the masts of my warships were soaked in the crimson blood pouring forth from the red banners.

anno schlacht 6

The fire of my mighty guns was the last thing the sailors of my opponent could hear ere the gurgling of the sea engulfed their ears and the hands of the depths of the ocean grasped their vessels pulling them down into their watery doom.

anno schlacht 8

By now the once so sizeable fleet of my dear enemy had shrunk down to but two or three of its members, the last battleship of which soon too fell victim to the relentless barrage of flames my vessels enraged like a bush fire in a time of drought turning the blue waters of the ocean a bright fiery orange.

anno schlacht 9

Mjölnir had been badly damaged, so I had already sent her toward the large on Festung Erpel for repairs.

anno schlacht 10

It was over. On the upset surface of the frightened sea swam the planks of about a twenty deceased keels like the limbs of fallen soldiers as the thick, dark clouds of gunpowder dissolved in the endless sky. Mjölnir soon had finished her repairs, and Siegfried took her place in the wharf.

anno schlacht 12

Only briefly did the whipping waves of war send out their ripples through the blue of water and heavens alike, and as the seagulls' ears had calmed from the noise of blasting cannons and bursting cogs the very last of the red player's vessels had been consumed by the sea.

anno schlacht 13

He had built another ship, but it was crushed ere it could even reach the harbour to arm itself.
My fleet had suffered. Of the eleven prideful combat vessels that had set out to destroy, but five were still abroad the waves and not below. Longinus, Mjölnir, Siegfried, and The Liberator; Bismarck, Wallenstein and Lettow-Vorbeck, Söldner, Excalibur, and Darius had been lost. But the sacrifice was not in vain, as it was nonetheless a most glorious victory. The whole enemy fleet had been annihilated down to the last tiny cog.

(If you are wondering while I am writing in the past tense again, or generally have noticed that I seemingly randomly change back and forth between past and present tense between updates, this is due to the fact that sometimes I write my commentary down as I play, but the other times only take screenshots during a session and later write the respective post in retrospect. Due to the rather hectic nature of naval warfare requiring most of your attention I of course was not able to always switch hither and fro between Anno 1602 and Editor and already had a bit of trouble taking all the screencaps, so I am again writing this after already having saved and finished.)
